Nick Miller and the Studio of Edward McGuire
IMMA | The Garden Galleries | 19th Nov 2015 - 3rd April 2016

The role and function of the artist’s studio is an underlying theme in this selection of works from the IMMA Collection which is curated in three exhibitions, floor by floor. In the Upstairs Galleries,
Nick Miller and the Studio of Edward McGuire presents a sort of portrait in absentia by Miller of Edward McGuire (1932-1986) and his studio; a painter of hyper-real portraits and still lifes whose studio was donated to IMMA in 2009. Read more on the IMMA website.

Painting Panchen Ötrul Rinpoche

Two sets of prints donated to Jampa Ling, the Buddhist retreat in County Cavan to help raise funds for the purchase of Owendoon House.

I spent a week painting Rinpoche in 2006, working on a large scale oil portrait and a number of watercolours including two life size ones, some were exhibited in Standing Sitting Lying but not all have been seen.

Along with the donated prints, some of the watercolours are currently on loan to Jampa Ling and on sale as part of the fundraising efforts.

Dónal Lunny, Playing: National Gallery commission unveiled

Nick Miller: Portrait of Dónal Lunny
A portrait of Dónal Lunny, one of Ireland’s legendary musicians and composers, was today unveiled (Friday, 17th April, 2015), in the National Gallery of Ireland. The portrait was specially commissioned by the National Gallery of Ireland as part of the inaugural Hennessy Portrait Prize. The artist, Nick Miller, winner of the Hennessy Portrait Prize in 2014, painted the portrait, ‘Dónal Lunny, Playing’, over a number of sittings in his Sligo studio.

Sean Rainbird, Director of the National Gallery of Ireland, said:
“Dónal Lunny is one of the most celebrated Irish musicians and music producers of his generation. His portrait by Nick Miller, winning artist of the Hennessy Portrait Prize in 2014, is a very welcome addition to the National Portrait Collection and we are delighted to display this new commission for the enjoyment of our visitors. Our thanks to Hennessy for their generosity and continued support.”
