Online sales directly support larger, long term projects: For example the current large scale SEA paintings have been in process for nearly eight years so far, without exhibiting –  estimating another couple to go before I can show the larger work. New directions in work can take about 5-10 years to fully manifest, and the longer I can maintain the creative bubble of studio the better the outcome. I have chosen works to present online that for me represent the best of my practice, and are also a good value to the buyer. They are small enough to post worldwide. Please feel free to share, your support is sincerely appreciated.

THE SEA ( Part I)

Stacks Image 1004

These original smaller works are available online to support ongoing studio work on the larger project begun in early 2107 with another couple of years to finish.

Thoreau said of his time at Walden Pond “To affect the quality of the day, that is the highest of arts”. As I, and many can attest who swim around the coast and lakes of Ireland, Wild swimming and cold water immersion are fairly fool-proof ways to "affect the quality of the day" – opening the self to nature and the universe.

INFO: About the work…..
Since early 2017 I have been swimming every day throughout the year, in all weathers entering the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean, either from my local beach at Rosses Point, or from the pier at Deadman’s Point in Co Sligo depending on the tides. It took nearly a decade living beside it, to start entering the water and navigating ways to address the subject. I choose to swim mainly in the early mornings, before most people are out of their beds, and more importantly, before thoughts, or life presents obstacles to my intention. Over time I have been exploring holding and using memory from these moments in search of an equivalence in painting – working in the studio to resolve my sense of the complex experiential encounters offing in the sea.

As a taster of the new work in progress, three recent Sea paintings in oil, are included in the group show "
The Sligo Wave" at the Model in Sligo (31st May - 7th September 2024) – alongside two older works: A TRUCKSCAPE from 2006 painted from my converted Truck/Mobile Studio, and also a YARD view from the door of my current Sligo studio door painted in 2013. The exhibition is focused on Sligo's strong association with painting in Ireland, from Jack Yeats to the present day.

The selected related watercolors below are also shown for the first time online and offered for sale, not studies, but original works in and of themselves, part of my attempts to find ways into this particular subject. See online works
